Padang!

After researching Indonesian food, Katrina took us to a place down the street for lunch. She had never been there before. It was really nice and we said yes when the lady said "menu?" Before we knew it, there were three servers bringing dishes of food to our table and they didn't stop until there were so many plates they had to stack them. No one spoke English, so we figured we would just start eating. There was everything: tofu, beef, chicken, veg, fish, prawns. To top it all off, Lonely Planet dared us to try the avacado-chocolate shakes so we ordered three for desert. We stuffed ourselves as much as we could figuring we had to pay for it anyway. Poor Carlos took the grunt of it, with a plate full of bones and a tummy ache to go with it. Then we called my friend Adil (a friend of mine from Jakarta) and we told him what happened. He asked if we were at a Padang restaurant. Yes we were. "You only pay for what you eat" he says! So basically they put food from a buffet on your table and then judge how much you eat and only charge you that much and then put the rest back for the next person. How food safe! We wish we had known that BEFORE we ate enough for ten people.

The next night Adil treated us to the most fabulous dinner! The restaurant he picked served traditional Indonesian food and we let him do all the ordering. The food was FANTASTIC!

And after dinner Adil took us to his father's wine bar for some delicious Shiraz.

Thanks Kat and Adil for showing us such a great time in Jakarta! xoxo
